THE HC TEAM WEIGHS IN: 2011 Highlights

This year many public figures have had the chance to share what presumably are their highlights of the year. President Obama might say his high was having a hand in the capturing and killing Osama bin Laden. Kate Middleton might say her high was becoming royalty. And while most collegiettes™ can’t lay claim to such extreme highs, the Her Campus team has had some amazing highlights we just had to share with you as 2011 comes to a close. So read our highlights and then, of course, share yours with us by leaving a comment below.

I got married to my best friend on August 13!
– Kate Byers, Campus Correspondent, Miami University

I rode a camel in the Wadi Ram Desert and floated in the Dead Sea… definitely major highlights of 2011, if not my life!
– Lauryn Paiva, Editorial Intern, Northeastern University

Moving to New York to start my freshman year was definitely an exhilarating highlight! I also loved my senior spring of high school, working as a camp counselor in beautiful rural Maine, and meeting my boyfriend. 2011 has been a great year!
– Hannah Orenstein, Pre-Collegiette™ Editor, New York University

My summer internship at Country Living magazine in New York was my 2011 highlight. Now let’s hope I can get back there this summer — with a job!
– Sarah Weinberg. Contributing Writer, San Diego State University

The past year was the most stressful, challenging, but exciting year yet. After taking some of the most difficult courses I’ve ever taken like “Physiology of Motivated Behavior,” launching a Her Campus Branch at UPenn, and covering the crime beat for my school newspaper the Daily Pennsylvanian, I was finally offered the internship of my dreams. Next semester, I will be an editorial intern in the features department of Cosmopolitan magazine! All that hard work really paid off.
– Grace Ortelere, Campus Correspondent, University of Pennsylvania

Becoming one of the new CC’s for the Her Campus JMU branch and having a super successful semester! I couldn’t have been happier!  :)
-.Alexa Johnson, Campus Correspondent, James Madison University

Completing my goal of visiting all seven continents! I made it to Asia (Israel) and Africa (Morocco) in 2011.
Quinn Cohane, Digital Media Manager and Branch Manager, Bowdoin College

My highlight of 2011 was camping out all night in the Brickyard for tickets to see President Barack Obama speak on campus at North Carolina State University, and then going to see him in person at his speech. It was surreal to be so close to the president of the United States with my closest friends and watching him throw up the wolf ears!
Kristie Demers, Campus Correspondent, NCSU

In February, I went to my very first New York Fashion Week show. I saw Tibi and it was literally life changing!
– Kelsey Mulvey, Contributing Writer, Boston University

Watching the BCS selection show and seeing the Crimson Tide listed as number 2 in the nation, set to take on LSU in New Orleans for the National Championship!
Jessica Johnson, Campus Correspondent, University of Alabama

Becoming President/Editor In Chief of the HC Branch at my school! It’s a big step towards my future, and I love that now High Point collegiettes™ are represented!
– Christina Buttafuoco, Campus Correspondent, High Point University

Traveling around the world. I interned in Australia this summer and studied abroad in Scotland this fall. It’s definitely a year that I’ll never forget!
– Lesley Siu, Campus Correspondent, American University

My older sister and her husband had their first child, David, in February! I can’t believe I’m an aunt! He has brought my family so much joy. I never expected to love someone so much without really knowing them, but he is just precious and I couldn’t be more obsessed with him!
– Laura Maddox, Campus Correspondent, Appalachian State University

My highlight from 2011 was the semester I spent studying abroad in Florence, Italy! It was an incredible accomplishment to survive in a foreign country where very few people speak English, and it was a great learning experience for me too — nothing like a 9 hour time difference from home to make you grow up!
– Jenni Whalen, Editorial Intern, Bucknell University

Celebrating my 21st birthday and beating Ohio State in football all on the same day!
– Erica Avesian, Contributing Writer, University of Michigan

I rarely get to see my dad’s side of the family, but they flew into Minneapolis from Denver for my high school graduation. Having them and my mom’s side of the family see me graduate was definitely the highlight of 2011.
Sydney Nolan, Contributing Writer, University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou)

Interning at Seventeen magazine. I learned so much and met so many amazing people.
Michelle King, Health Editor/Editorial Intern, Emerson College
