‘Ello all!
So made it through week two of my London living and I must say it’s getting interesting! I’ve managed to visit a few of London’s great landmarks and I can’t say enough about how beautiful this city is. It looks exactly like it does in the movies. So far we have visited Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and took a trip up to see the city of Bath.
Living in London leaves a lot less pressure to see all the tourist sights all at once, which is sooooooo nice. We decided to take a Saturday and explore Trafalgar Square and see all the sights London really had to offer. Big Ben is huge and is super close to Westminster Abbey, both are imposing and beautiful. We then walked past my future home, Buckingham Palace, and stumbled upon the changing of the guard which was pretty cool. It’s totally not true about the guards not laughing because we DEFINITELY saw one laugh. It’s one for the record books! Maybe he was new?
I’m somewhat sad to say I have never read a Jane Austen book so going up to Bath was beautiful but meant nothing monumental to me. It was completely picturesque countryside though! And very cold, which I’m slowly getting used to. Don’t look at me like that! It is a big change from sunny San Diego to rather chilly England! I’ll get there I swear!
Oh it snow flurried yesterday and I was jumping around outside like a little kid regardless that it was a crisp 25 degrees. It was just so unbelievable that I’m in London and it’s getting ready to snow. It’s one of my dreams come true!
We plan to take many more trips around London and England itself but I would say that isn’t too bad of a start! The one thing that is completely mind-blowing about seeing all of these sites is just how old everything is. The US is a child in comparison to these countries and it really puts things in perspective. The first weekend we were here all fourteen of us took a Jack the Ripper tour. Now you have to understand, I am a huge coward when it comes to scary movies, haunted houses, etc. Really, just ask my boyfriend. Anyways, the tour itself wasn’t scary it was actually rather fascinating because one of the first things the tour guide told us was that the city of London itself, which is a square mile, is 2,000 years old.
Holy cow.
We walked past buildings that have been there for centuries and sidewalks that watched Jack the Ripper creep through the night. It was great. I really felt connected to London after the tour, ignoring the fact that I spent a majority of the time looking over my shoulder.
There is more traveling in these next few weeks as well! I have a week long break coming up in a week in which five girlfriends and I will be visiting Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, and Switzerland. I am not living real life! And to top it off I’m taking a girls trip to PARIS tomorrow for the weekend. No big deal, I’m pretty much just living the life right now.
Be jealous! I’ll be sure to post pictures and stories galore next week.
Bon weekend!
