La mia collegiettes! Come stai? See, told you I’d improve. I am having the time of my life here in beautiful Italia…not that you were expecting anything less, I’m sure. Let’s start with where I am living. Did I mention that the bedroom window of my apartment opens up directly out to the Duomo?
I took this photo when I was hanging out the window. Admittedly, slightly dangerous, but c’mon. The people watching alone is worth it. The other night I saw two Snooki-wannabe’s shouting at each other in drunken English…but I digress.
My best friend Kristen & I are taking classes up on campus, which is stunning, but a trek. I am talking a fourty-five minute walk uphill both ways. I knew I should have packed my shape-ups… I pass the time envisioning all of the pasta I’m going to eat to compensate for the cals burned…and gossiping with Kristen, of course.
PS…These are the kinds of sights we see en-route to class. Not too shabby, huh?
Once we are actually up on campus, I have to admit, I immediately get a high-school flashback. Something about being in 1-2 buildings all day with a small group of individuals is totally transporting me back to seventeen. Is it weird that I am kind of loving the throw-back? Of course, it means conversations had with that cute guy in class post a-few-too-many-shots-of-
And by deal, I mean arrive 15 minutes early for said class to move my seat away. Far, far away. And stat.
Like I said, the night life here is absolutely insane. I am talking as-seen-on-the-Jersey-Shore x 100. Not kidding. Kristen & I were comparing the clubs (called discoteccas) here to Disney World attractions for twenty-year olds. They’re all secret rooms and dark ramps and flashing lights…so fun. These Italian men are admittedly more aggressive than your average drunk frat guy, but I am quickly perfecting the ole’ shake-my-head-and-bail maneuver.
Kristen & I managed to snag a picture together before we went out the other night. Note the Duomo. The. Duomo.
This Sunday, Kristen I were feeling adventurous, so instead of spending the day people-watching and cooking pasta (like usual), we signed up to go to Lucca with our program. Cool, right? Lucca is this super charming Tuscan city surrounded by a brick wall originally used to fortify it from invaders. We strolled around all day, soaking in the sights and pretty much loving life.
That’s a view from this fantastic tower we climbed up. I was wheezing/sweating the entire way. Attractive. Nothing some clever photoshopping can’t fix, my friends.
We rounded out our afternoon with what else but red wine and pizza. Slight buzz and food coma in place, we both promptly fell asleep on the bus ride home. Perfecto.
Now that I am done making you jealous, la mia collegiettes, I must bid you farewell. There’s some espresso and a forty-minute walk to class with my name on it. Until next week!
Arriverderci!
