Demi Lovato Talks to Katie Couric About Eating Disorders

Demi Lovato is all about raising awareness.

As her career skyrockets with her new gig as a judge on The X Factor, Demi is still taking time to talk about the issues she is passionate about. Ever since seeking treatment for her eating disorders two years ago, Demi has dedicated her time and energy to spreading the word about positive body image.

This week, Demi appeared on Katie Couric’s new talk show, Katie, to open up about her personal struggles with bulimia and anorexia. She spoke candidly about her own body issues, recounting memories of being image conscious from the early age of three. She spoke about beginning to have a bad relationship with food at age eight, and how, as she got older, stress began to trigger her eating disorders. Demi’s openness inspired Katie, too, who shared that she also struggled with bulimia in college and young adulthood.

Demi talked about learning to let her body be it’s natural shape, which she describes as “curvy.” Katie mentioned the importance of focusing on health instead of simply being thin. Together, they focused on not being ashamed of eating disorders, on the importance of talking about personal struggles in order to overcome them, and about learning to love the body you have. Demi is definitely rocking the love-your-body philosophy, as she shows off her confidence with her adorable teal tipped hair.
