Girls is grabbing everyone’s attention for it’s super candid, sexual and WTF humor. Let’s take a look at the series’ top nine most WTF moments.
1. Hannah’s Opium Pass-Out
Season 1, Episode 1: “Pilot”
After Hannah is cut off from her parents financially and left to fend for herself in the dog-eat-dog world of New York City, she deals with it in the most Hannah way possible. After drinking some opium tea, Hannah graces her parents with her stoned presence at their nearby hotel, tells them she is “the voice of her generation” and proceeds to pass out on the floor of their hotel room. We aren’t really sure why Hannah thought it would be a genius idea to drown her panic with a giant pot of opium tea before visiting her parents, but we surely enjoyed watching it all unfold. Now we know what NOT to do when we’re trying to convince our parents to lend us money.
2. “The stuff that gets up around the sides of condoms.”
Season 1, Episode 2: “Vagina Panic”
Hannah and her friends-with-benefits partner, Adam, have a talk, leaving Hannah in a panic when she realizes Adam doesn’t always use condoms. We’re left with Hannah propped up in her bed, exploring her lady biscuit with a magnifying mirror. To guide her investigation, she uses her all-knowing best friend, Google, searching the most plausible possibilities that could lead to anything out of the ordinary. Her search? “Stuff that gets up around the sides of condoms.” WTF, Hannah? Okay, we all say WTF, but we secretly love that Hannah touches on something we’re all afraid to talk about. Sometimes we have to take matters into our own hands, and we love that she isn’t afraid to dive in and check it out.
3. Adam’s Erotic Selfie
Season 1, Episode 4: “Hannah’s Diary”
Adam has proved himself to be the cream of the crop when it comes to really weird sexual partners, but he really went above and beyond with his super creative “dick pic.” His good-morning message to Hannah featured his penis staring at the camera phone, wrapped up in the bushy tail of a squirrel skin. Before we even had time to absorb the peculiar picture, he shot her the famous follow-up text: “SRY that wasn’t for you.” Great way to find out your hook-up buddy isn’t just your hook-up buddy. Not many of us will ever experience animal skin and a penis in one picture, but if our boyfriends ever send us a picture of their member wrapped in a coon hat, we now know how to handle it. Thanks, Hannah.
4. Shoshanna’s Crackcident
Season 1, Episode 7: “Welcome to Bushwick a.k.a. The Crackcident”
Unbeknownst to herself, Shoshanna becomes a crack-smoking rebel at a warehouse party after she smokes a drug she thought was marijuana (hint: it wasn’t). Jessa fails as Shosh’s “crack spirit guide” and leaves her alone with Ray, whom she believes to be a rapist. Chaos ensues and Shoshanna takes off in a dead sprint down an alley, pants-less, running from Ray. It turns out the two actually start dating. What a romantic commencement to a budding relationship. We must admit, we loved seeing sweet, innocent little Shosh totally out of her element: high out of her mind and running around without pants on.
5. Marnie’s Not-so-Straight Sex Scene
Season 2, Episode 1: “It’s About Time”
Season two literally started off with a bang, and a very awkward and unexpected one at that. Not only did Marnie have sex with Elijah, Hannah’s gay ex-boyfriend, but it all went down after Elijah had a blowup fight with his boyfriend at Hannah and Marnie’s housewarming party. This one-of-a-kind sex scene is the foundation of the Girls WTF territory. We love Elijah and Marnie, but seeing the two both dressed in pastels and kitchen aprons made us feel like we were watching a pornographic version of The Stepford Wives.
6. Jessa’s Basket of Puppies
Season 2, Episode 2: “I Get Ideas”
After Jessa’s shotgun wedding and honeymoon with tenacious yuppie Thomas-John, he leaves right away to go back to work, leaving her bunked up in an amazing, super-posh apartment and a basket of puppies. We wouldn’t exactly pin Jessa’s character as a lovey-dovey, fuzzy-puppy-loving type, but don’t worry, she redeemed herself with the name choices for her new little pals: Garbage, F*cker and Hanukkah. Now that’s the Jessa we know and love.
7. Hannah and Elijah’s Cocaine Adventure
Season 2, Episode 3: “Bad Friend”
After Hannah’s unemployment situation hits rock bottom, she takes it upon herself to begin some imaginative freelance writing. She befriends Laird, an ex-junkie who lives in the basement of her apartment building, and procures some cocaine to inspire a new article. She and Elijah do the coke together and go club-hopping on a Wednesday night to enhance their experience. One thing leads to another, and Elijah spills the beans about his little sex incident with Marnie. Coked out and angry, Hannah runs home sweaty and braless, where she spends the night with Laird. This was our favorite Hannah WTF moment, mostly because of her famous see-through yellow mesh shirt leaving her boobs flopping in the wind.
8. Marnie’s Encounter With Booth’s Sex Chamber
Season 2, Episode 3: “Bad Friend”
In an effort to explore her sexual side after dating super-vanilla boyfriend Charlie, Marnie goes on a bit of a sexcapade with the trendy conceptual artist Booth Jonathan. Unfortunately, he’s disturbingly conceptualized in the bedroom, too. Before even getting Marnie in bed, he showed her his collection of dollhouses smeared with his own blood. Then, he introduced his idea of foreplay, which consisted of locking Marnie in a chamber of TVs, making her watch disturbing video footage. It didn’t end there; he even likes a mannequin to be in the room while they have sex. Um…WTF? We love a little excitement in the bedroom, but this crosses the line from kinky to creepy. Maybe Charlie was super lame, but at least he wasn’t a borderline pedophile.
9. Jessa’s Lesbian Act of Honor
Season 3, Episode 1: Females Only
After admitting herself to rehab and hating every single minute of it, Jessa finds herself in deep sh*t when she accuses Laura, one of the other addicts, of being a lesbian because she hates sex and is wearing a vest. In an attempt to apologize to Laura, Jessa tells her that she would probably get over her addiction if she was more open about her sexuality. Her way of helping out? Giving Laura intense oral sex, which in exchange gets Jessa kicked out of rehab. As cringe-worthy as it was, we silently smirked, because only Jessa could get kicked out of rehab for giving out sexual favors. Hey, she was just trying to help… right?
