These 5 Women Are Skipping The Beach And Doing Good This Spring Break

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Spring Break Szn is upon us, which means it’s finally time to leave campus and embark on an adventure. This year, we surveyed our community to learn about their spring break plans and the responses were so inspiring. While the obvious choice is usually traveling to a beach or lounging by the pool, so many of you have chosen to spend your time off doing good and giving back! But just because you’re building houses or cleaning up beaches doesn’t mean you can leave the sunscreen at home. Which is why we partnered up with Alba Botanica to inspire you to do good this Spring break, for both your community and your skin. Psst their products are botanically-based, 100% vegetarian, cruelty-free, leaping-bunny certified and they’re reef friendly! Read and scroll to be inspired by five of our community members’ incredible alternative spring break plans.

“This spring break, I will be traveling through seven different states in the Southern United States on a Civil Rights Pilgrimage trip with my University. I took a course this past semester called Women of the Civil Rights Movement where we learned a lot about the civil rights movement and social justice today. As part of the class, we have the opportunity to visit the cities in which major civil rights events were held and visit important landmarks. We will also have the chance to meet people who were involved in the movement when they were younger and hear their stories and advice. This is an awesome opportunity for me and my peers to learn about important US history and minority rights!”

“This upcoming spring break, I have the opportunity to go to Cape Town, South Africa! I will be going with an organization called Orchard Africa. This organization focuses on 4 different ministries: health care, education, agriculture, and church ministry. This trip means so much to me and I feel so honored to be able to go and travel with some of my closest friends. I feel so strongly about helping those in need and using our resources to benefit the lives of so many. I have always felt a tug on my heart to visit South Africa and to learn about their culture, their language and build long-lasting relationships and friendships there.”

“This Spring Break, I will be studying abroad in the Dominican Republic with Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. I will be learning how healthcare operates in a different country and a different culture, and I will get to volunteer and shadow in the different hospitals there. I wanted to experience a new culture and apply it to my future career, and my University has some really cool study abroad programs, so it was easy to decide that I wanted to apply to the program, and I am very excited that I was accepted to it.”

“I am going to Fort Lauderdale, FL to participate in the collegiate challenge. The collegiate challenge is when college students team up with affiliates from Habitat for Humanity. I participated in this alternative spring break opportunity last year and I really loved it. I loved doing something I would remember and feel good about for spring break. This year, I am taking on the role of a trip leader and I am so excited to be able to lead this amazing experience.”

“This spring break I am traveling to Oakland, California to serve with my school’s alternative spring break. We are focusing on helping people experiencing homelessness and poverty. We will be visiting different schools in the area and making tiny houses to help combat homelessness. I love Howard’s Alternative Spring Break and I am so excited.”
