Break Up with A Negative Body Image This Fall

Summer is the time of year that women tend to pay the most attention to their bodies, often working out more or “re-toning” in preparation for their annual bikini debut. As the motivating sunshine fades into crisp autumn, as we eschew cutoffs and tank tops for jeans and sweaters, many of us no longer feel quite as motivated to make time to exercise.

Halloween is just around the corner (followed by the barrage of winter holidays that we so adore), and as you browse the new fall wardrobes, select a fabulous Halloween costume, and start to think about who you’re going to be spending this time of the year with—friends, family, a significant other—don’t fall into the trap of hiding self-consciousness beneath a bunch of layers! You can still flaunt it in the fall, ladies! Check out these fall trends for every body shape, make autumn your fittest season yet, and don’t let the smorgasbord of dietary options on campus keep you from eating healthy!

Smile when you look in the mirror every day! Be daring with your attire and comfortable in your skin. If you’ve been eyeing a curve-hugging Halloween costume, just go for it! Make your decisions with confidence and follow through—you’ll find that your self-esteem will rise with every little success. Find a workout that’s adaptable to your schedule, whether it’s in-your-dorm-room yoga or an evening run. Make exercise fun—go horseback riding or rock climbing, plan a hiking/camping trip with friends! Regular exercise is mood-boosting, confidence-boosting, and can always be made into a fun social event if you bring along a friend or two! Don’t forget to breathe! Feeling stressed or overworked can lower your confidence in your ability to work through problems. Take time to meditate or even simply breathe, get enough sleep, and get organized. Kick bad habits like over-snacking, drinking sugary beverages with every meal, and sitting for over four hours at a time. In the long run, you’ll feel happier, healthier, and confident enough to take on any challenge!

The most important thing: be accepting of your body. Every collegiette has hang-ups about this or that, but we also take the time to notice the parts of our physiques that we adore and take pride in. Accept the flaws that come with every body, and realize that you’re beautiful because of them, never in spite of them. Check out these body confidence role models, and don’t just stop with body confidence! Here are seven kinds of confidence every girl should have!
