Full disclosure: Microsoft flew me from Boston to Washington, D.C. today and put me up in a hotel so that I could cover this event.
Right now I’m in our Nation’s capital to report on the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2010. The Imagine Cup encourages young people to apply their imagination, passion and creativity to technology innovations that can make a difference in the world. The eighth annual U.S. Imagine Cup Finals are taking place in Washington, D.C. tomorrow! Teams from across the country will compete for $36,000 in prize money and the chance to represent the U.S. in the worldwide finals this July in Warsaw, Poland. Over 14,000 students from across the United States registered for the competition this year. Those 14,000 were cut down to 80 students who flew into D.C. this weekend for the final competition. The final 8 teams (4 in the software design category and 4 in the game-design category) are presenting tomorrow. 2 of the final 8 teams are all-girls teams! I can’t wait to go see the presentations!
I just found out that James Cameron is the surprise keynote speaker at tomorrow’s event! I’m going to try to finagle an interview if I can! Wish me luck!
Some pictures from today:
I flew into the Ronald Reagan National Airport today. I’d never seen that airport before. Isn’t it sick?
I grabbed a quick dinner at California Tortilla. The spinach in my spinach quesadilla wasn’t cooked and the cheese was a bit gloopy. The tortilla also tasted about a week old. I’m not a fan.
Anyways, I’m here! I’m staying at the Embassy Suites in Chevy Chase with all of the contestants. More updates to come tomorrow! Goodnight!
HC Love,
Windsor
