There are two kinds of people: those who will watch tonight’s Super Bowl to find out whether the New England Patriots or the Philadelphia Eagles will win, and those who are only watching it to get to tonight’s surely traumatic AF This Is Us episode. For those of us who fall into the latter camp (*raises hand*) Milo Ventimiglia’s hilarious, newly-released ad for Crock Pot is here to give us the laugh we need before tonight’s episode.
If you’re all caught up on the show (and if not, stop reading right here — because spoilers, obviously), you know that we found out a week and a half ago that Jack’s tragic death is entirely the fault of the Pearson family Crock Pot. Ever since, owners of Crock Pots everywhere have been shooting theirs with some major side eye — but Jack Pearson himself, a.k.a. Milo Ventimiglia, is here to assure us that’s it’s time to forgive and forget.
The resulting ad is basically the best thing to happen to television since the show’s pilot episode premiered. The commercial starts out with Milo speaking to the camera about using the Super Bowl as an opportunity to spend plenty of time with friends and family.
“The big game is fast approaching and for many of us, this day brings us an opportunity to gather with friends and family, loved ones we don’t get to see all that often,” he begins. “But in 2018, gathering friends and family, well, it’s not as easy as what it used to be. The country is divided. Sometimes that can make it tough to find common ground, but this year … this year, I think we should all take a deep breath, find the ability to forgive, and remind ourselves there is no difference so great that we can’t overcome it.”
Milo then promptly turns to a Crock Pot and ladles himself a hearty serving of chili, just in time for his favorite day of the year — and right on cue, the hashtag #CrockPotIsInnocent appears on the screen. Don’t mind me, I’ll just be over here roaring with laughter.
Hey, if we all have to deal with the trauma of Jack’s death tonight, at least we have Milo and his IRL Crock Pot here to make us laugh and lighten things up — because if the last episode is any indication, there will be some full-on post-Super Bowl sobs happening tonight.
