Following a tumultuous battle in court, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have reached a divorce settlement. In an effort to share their own account of the events that have unfolded between them, the pair released a joint statement to the Daily Mail.
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has lied nor made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future.”
According to reports by the Daily Mail, Heard will receive a sum of nearly $10 million from the settlement; she intends to donate part of the money to a charity of her choice.
After a long couple months, we hope the former couple are finally able to move on from this difficult time. Their appearances in court have been tainted most recently by leaked video footage of Depp verbally assaulting Heard and the revelation that Depp wrote Heard a message in his own blood with his cut-off fingertip.
While it’s shocking how quickly the settlement was reached (considering the pair’s alarming interactions and how relentless Depp appeared to be in fighting the case), the release of this oddly cordial joint statement means that they can finally achieve some peace following their split.
