Anna Kendrick Was Not Happy About Being Told to Dress ‘Sexier’ in ‘Pitch Perfect 3’

Anna Kendrick will be reprising her role in the highly anticipated Pitch Perfect 3, the third movie in the successful film franchise that’s set to release on December 22nd.

The Bellas are adored by fans for their quirky, offbeat charm, and it’s one of the main reasons why Kendrick was annoyed when she was told that their costumes should be ‘sexier.’

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the actress said, “It’s funny ― whenever we do the wardrobe fittings, I feel like we get notes from the top saying they should be tighter and sexier and show more skin.” She continued, “And I’m like, that’s not why people are coming to see the movie. They definitely aren’t showing up because of our sex appeal.”

Known on Twitter for her outspokenness and wit, Kendrick doesn’t shy away from addressing problems like this request. Her admonishment regarding the sexist wardrobe notes made by executives is refreshing, as it is one of the many issues that is often overlooked surrounding the inequality seen in Hollywood.

Kendrick went on to say that, “It’s nice that audiences are interested in seeing a movie of misfits and girls of different shapes and sizes.”

This is a comforting statement to hear, especially considering the unneeded attempts that were made to sexualize our favorite group of hilarious acapella singers. Kendrick also expanded on how she’s already seeing changes with people taking sexual harassment “more seriously,” since dozens of sexual assault allegations have been brought to light in Hollywood.

Hopefully, Kendrick’s statements and disagreement with these unnecessary clothing suggestions are taken seriously. The trend of sexualizing women in whatever role they’re in has become an unfortunately common aspect of too many movies.
