In The “You’re Done” TikTok Trend, Creators Are Taking Things Way Too Far

Have you ever been caught in a situation where someone took things just a little too far and you had to reel them in? Or, did you ever witness something problematic that needed to be stopped ASAP? In the hilarious “You’re Done” TikTok trend, creators are depicting funny, yet frustrating moments when they simply can’t deal with what’s happening and they need another person to simmer down. Whether you’re over your puppy biting you for the millionth time or your roommate asks to borrow your lip gloss and proceeds to use half the tube, you’ll understand why some people just need to be…done.

The “You’re Done” TikTok trend began when creator @kittykatkittykatpur posted this original video where someone attempts to pop a pimple on their friend’s face (gross, I know). Shortly after realizing this, the friend turns around and immediately says, “You’re done. You’re done.” The soundbite quickly evolved into a popular trending sound that has been used in at least 88,000 videos on TikTok to date. The hashtag #You’reDone currently has 419.5 million views and counting, and it makes sense as to why: like any quality TikTok trend, it harnesses humor, simplicity, and a niche feeling we can all relate to.

In the viral trend, creators film a scenario where someone takes things way too far and has to be told to stop. In most versions of the trend, TikTokers film a lip dub-style video of the situation in question, and once the scenario is presented, it’s followed by the iconic audio: “You’re done. You’re done.” This TikTok trend is all about comedic timing and tapping into that universally frustrating moment when you needed someone else to get it together.

For example, you know when you’re trying to be stealthy by whispering to your friend at a party and she says, “WHY ARE YOU WHISPERING?” Bestie, you’re done. You’re done. Or when you’re out at dinner and someone clearly doesn’t follow the chip-dipping norms (yes, they exist!), and proceeds to get red salsa mixed in with the queso? Yeah, they’re done. And I hate to break it to you, but sometimes, it is you who needs to be cut off. Maybe you’re spending too much money or you just accidentally liked your ex’s photo from eight years ago during a stalking frenzy. Whatever it is, the “You’re Done” TikTok trend is here for you when you need it.

Of course, TikTokers have interpreted the trend in a variety of ways, from silly to serious. Creator @jennachristine5 catches her mom stalking her on IG, and proceeds to say, “You’re done.” In another version, Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez repeatedly tries to make a video with Simone Biles, who responds with a savage “You’re done.” If you’ve ever spent time with little kids, you’ll appreciate this version from @aimeelco, whose toddler is not here for her antics during playtime.

Whether your SO accidentally pushes the shopping cart into your ankle at Target or someone starts flirting with you but they’re full of microaggressions, the “You’re Done” TikTok trend will help you capture those moments when you’ve simply had enough. I love how creators have used the trend to talk about everything from #BookTok to crystals, and how simple it is to execute from home. The next time you’ve been pushed to your limits, grab this trending audio, try the “You’re Done” TikTok trend, and let us know who needs to get it together.
