Ah, yes, the time has finally come. On Jan. 7, Disney Studios announced the anticipated starring cast for the live-action remake of its 2010 Tangled with a post to Instagram — presenting Teagan Croft as the princess-bound Rapunzel and Milo Manheim (School Spirits and Zombies franchise star) to play her night-and-shining-armour, Flynn Rider. (Could this cast be any better?) But for those who are new to the table, you might be wondering who exactly Teagan Croft is.
An Australian-born actress, Croft made her on-screen debut with a recurring role in Australia’s soap opera Home and Away, before her breakthrough role as Raven in the DC Universe/HBO Max superhero series Titans, and starring in True Spirit. Last year, Croft wrapped filming on two independent films — contemporary-thriller Alphas and drama Override, which are both currently in post-production. She recently shared on Instagram a photo of herself with the caption “Super grateful for 2025 just trust it was for fye (for your entertainment)”, a nod not only to these films, but to her involvement with Tangled.
But now that the live-action adaptation of the 2010 hit has finally found its Rapunzel (who has had quite a few previous roles and seems to have the perfect long blonde locks), what do we really know about Croft so far?
Who is Teagan Croft?
Croft was born in Sydney, Australia, in 2004, starting her acting career early at just the age of nine. In an interview with fashion magazine RUSSH last year, Croft said that every time she plays a character, her main goal is to “make people feel against their will,” — saying she enjoys playing roles with existing IP and lore around them (Rapunzel, we see you). She also said she enjoys working with those excited to make films because it, in turn, excites her. “That energy is transferable. It’s palpable. It’s shareable,” she said.
Croft reportedly defeated other blossoming actresses for the esteemed Rapunzel role — such as Sarah Catherine Hook, who played Piper Ratliff in The White Lotus’s recent season, Olivia Mai-Barrett, who plays Ryder Evans in Invasion, and Freya Skye, who played Nova Bright in Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires.
Aside from acting, Croft has also shared openly on her social media about her studies. She is studying for an English literature degree with a minor in music theory — her Instagram bio reads: “Actor/Lit Major/Majorly Lit”.
What has Croft starred in?
As mentioned, Croft started her acting career early. When she was nine, she played Scout Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird at Sydney’s New Theatre. After that, she made her on-screen debut as Bella Loneragen in Home and Away, which launched her into TV success.
She’s had roles in the action-packed TV series Legends of Tomorrow, the drama film Bella and Bernie, as well as the television mini-series Woman of a Certain Age. She also starred as the title character in the 2016 science fiction film The Osiris Child, and as Jessica Watson in the 2023 adventure film True Spirit.
While the remainder of the live-action Tangled cast has yet to be announced (including Mother Gothel), the live-action film is set to be directed by Michael Gracey, the mastermind behind the musical The Greatest Showman.
When is the live-action Tangled coming out?
As of now, the movie has no set release date and is still in pre-production — but fans are hoping for a late 2027 or early 2028 release. While Croft and Manheim definitely have big shoes to fill (you know, assuming a role held by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi), the live-action Tangled has finally found its stars — and fans couldn’t be more excited.
