Itching to watch a psychological thriller this spooky season? Starring Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway, and Josh Hartnett, Verity hit theaters everywhere on Oct. 2, making it the perfect option for your next Halloween watch. The film is an adaptation of the popular 2018 Colleen Hoover novel of the same name, all about a struggling writer hired to assist an injured, famous author with completing her manuscript. Lowen Ashleigh (played by Dakota Johnson) begins to uncover the secrets behind Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway)’s mysterious injury, leading her to discover a truth far more sinister than she was expecting. Spoiler alert: Spoilers for Verity follow.
Following titles like It Ends With Us, Verity marks the fourth of Hoover’s novels to make it to the big screen. Despite it being less than a week since the movie’s release at the time of publication, Verity has already sparked huge debates amongst the established fanbase and its newer members. Some fans are divided between the manuscript and the letter, while others are torn between which ending they prefer — the movie or book. It seems like Verity is all the rage on BookTok right now, and, of course, fans of the book have been flocking to the theaters to go see the film on the big screen.Â
But let’s face it: Not everyone has time to go to the movies. Whether it’s school, work, or just life in general, things can get in the way and make it difficult to head to your local theater to see the latest film. Plus, a movie experience at the theater can be expensive — especially when you’re paying for a ticket on top of paying for streaming service subscriptions. So, it’s totally understandable if you’re waiting to see when the film will make it to streaming services. Unfortunately, Verity fans, I have some bad news. For the moment, you’ll have to play the waiting game, as the film will only be shown in theaters for a while.Â
Don’t worry, though. Good things come to those who wait! In the future, Verity will be made available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. So, you’ll get the chance to watch it for the first time (or the fifth) in a few months. While you’re waiting for Verity to release on streaming, this might be a good time to investigate an Prime Video subscription so you’re ready when it drops. There are multiple plans offered, ranging from $8.99 for Prime Video as a standalone service to $14.99 as part of an Amazon Prime account. And if you’re a student, you can access it for half the price using the Prime For Young Adults subscription.
And if none of this sounds like a fit for you, you can check out the book to get your fix of Verity in the meantime. Either way, hang in there a little bit longer. Verity will be on streaming soon enough!
