If you have opened the comment section of basically any Dancing with the Stars Season 35 cast member’s TikTok recently, there is a good chance you have seen the word “wuez” somewhere. Maybe someone called a dance “so wuez,” declared that a cast member was “giving wuez,” or simply commented the word with absolutely zero explanation. And if you are wondering what “wuez” actually means, you are not alone. In fact, the DWTS cast doesn’t really know what the word means either.
Here’s the thing: the word doesn’t actually mean anything. Yup, that’s right — “wuez” is a completely made-up slang term, and fans are attempting to convince the DWTS cast that it is real. But it didn’t come out of nowhere, and made-up words aren’t anything new in the DWTS fandom. In fact, the the prank was created by a fan on TikTok as a way to turn one of Rylee Arnold and Ezra Sosa’s own pranks back on them. Iconic, honestly.
If you’re confused about Sosa and Arnold’s prank, let me catch you up. Back in 2024, Arnold and Sosa created a made-up slang term, “quah,” to prank their fellow DWTS cast members. On a TikTok Live, Sosa said he and Arnold were in a rehearsal and decided, “Let’s f*ck with the pros. Let’s make a fake word.” The two would casually drop “quah” in conversations with pros who were not in on the joke and act shocked when they didn’t understand what it meant.
The other pros even developed their own descriptions of “quah,” and started using the fake slang term unironically because they thought it was real. Eventually, “quah” took on a life of its own within the DWTS fandom, with some fans even admitting they originally thought it was real Gen Z slang.
Now, fans want Arnold and Sosa to get a taste of their own medicine. Instead of explaining “wuez,” fans have started commenting it across DWTS-related posts, hoping to convince the pros that it is a real slang term they have somehow missed. Some pairings, like Sarah Jane Nader and Hailey Bills, expressed their confusion with the word and its meaning (or lack thereof).
However, other DWTS cast members are hopping on the trend and embracing the word… even if they don’t know what it really means.
And, naturally, fans are loving it.
With Season 35 of Dancing with the Stars quickly approaching, we will have to see if “wuez” has the same cultural impact as “quah.” And considering Arnold and Sosa managed to convince both the pros and fans that “quah” was real, I would say this revenge has been a long time coming.
