We Might Have to Wait Until 2019 for ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3

They say all good things take time and Stranger Things is one of them. In an interview with VarietyDavid Harbour, known as Sheriff Hopper in the bingeworthy Netflix series, said it sounds like Stranger Things season three won’t come out until 2019. Hearing the news is a hard pill to swallow, but it also might be for the best.

“One of the things that’s annoying for fans is that it takes us a long time to do them,” Harbour told Variety. “Like, you probably won’t get [season three] until sometime in 2019.”

Though it truly is annoying, the writers are working really hard. “But also part of the thing is, like any good thing, they need time,” Harbour continued. “And those guys work so hard. I mean, they just sit in their apartment and write for 12, 14 hours a day.”

Could you imagine? There’s clearly a lot of thought that goes into each episode, making it more exciting for the fans because literally ~anything~ can happen. The Duffer brothers are only two days into season three’s script, according to E! News, so who knows how it will all go down. Will we see more Steve and Dustin moments? Is Will okay or is he still tied to the Upside Down? Who knows. All the brothers can say is, “There will be a time jump for sure.” Considering the long time periods blocked out for writing and filming, it will be over a year before we see the cast again.

Matt Duffer mentioned the time concerns and the cast growing up. “Our kids are aging,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “We can only write and produce the show so fast. They’re going to be almost a year older by the time we start shooting season three. It provides certain challenges. You can’t start right after season two ended. It forces you to do a time jump. But what I like is that it makes you evolve the show. It forces the show to evolve and change, because the kids are changing.”

This is kind of genius because it’s not often you see a show evolve this well. As much as I’m dying to see season three, I understand the amount of time and effort it takes to make a show this good. I’m excited to see how the children’s lives evolve and hopefully get more answers about the Upside Down. Until 2019, I guess I’ll just re-watch the first two seasons and monitor the cast’s social media for more behind-the-scenes shots.
