I know I touched on this yesterday, but tomorrow I will be flying to Miami to board a 7 day cruise to the Caribbean!
As a girl who could spend all her days lying on a beach with a good book, I am so excited for 7 days of R&R. But at the same time, my prior record with vacations and eating well is pretty poor…meaning it doesn’t exist. So needless to say, I am pretty nervous about keeping to the SELF Jump Start Diet while sailing the seven seas and even more anxious about having to blog about any slip ups that occur.
Luckily, I found the time during my hectic day to read Lose the Freshman 15 blogger Sara Kaner’s post about the ways she is going to stay healthy while being assaulted by temptations on the boat. So instead of getting discouraged, I am going to use Sara’ ideas, plus a few of my own, to keep my healthy streak going strong. This way, when I come back to Wake I will be proud of how well I stuck to the Jump Start Diet, instead of wanting to forget all I chowed down on.
So here is how I am going to do it:
Workout! This is something I love to do anyway, so I am going to take advantage of being a morning person and hit the gym early so I don’t miss any ideal sun time. Also, finding creative ways to burn calories can help on days that making it to the gym just isn’t possible. Running up the stairs, or even just walking, instead of taking the elevator and/or swimming in the ocean are both great ways to get a little physical activity in while on vacay.
Eat Fresh Foods. This is one of Sara’s tips and I think it’s great! By utilizing the fresh fruit and veggies offered on the ship, I can fill up on scrumptious, yet healthy food instead of junk.
Have fun! If I am busy exploring the Caribbean, I won’t even have time to think about eating everything in sight at the buffet! Plus, by allowing myself a little treat here and there, I can hold off any chocolate or carb binges.
With these plans in mind and Sara’s tips I will only be gaining a tan, not any pounds, on this spring break!
If you have any other healthy vacation strategies, let me know!
