The Top 5 Moments of the 2014 People’s Choice Awards

It’s that time of year again! If you weren’t able to catch the 2014 People’s Choice Awards this Wednesday, fear not; Her Campus has you covered. These were the top five moments from the first awards show of the season.

1. The Red Carpet

There were plenty of style standouts from the People’s Choice Awards, where the trend of the night was curve-hugging dresses with a mid-calf-length hem. Some of our favorite looks included Nina Dobrev’s sequined Jenny Packham dress, Jessica Alba’s white-hot Jason Wu number and Allison Williams’ royal blue David Koma dress.

2. Sandra Bullock Wins Big

The eternally youthful Bullock was the night’s big winner, taking home four trophies for favorite movie actress, favorite comedic movie actress, favorite dramatic movie actress and favorite movie duo with George Clooney, her co-star in Gravity. At one point the star joked, “I know this looks like I spent lonely Friday nights just voting for myself, but I didn’t.” We believe you, Sandra!

3. Jennifer Hudson’s Tearful Acceptance Speech

One of the most emotional moments of the night was undoubtedly Jennifer Hudson’s acceptance of the favorite humanitarian award. Hudson accepted the award for her work with the foundation she started in honor of her late nephew, Julian D. King, who was murdered in 2008 along with Hudson’s mother and brother. Hudson’s sister, Julia, joined her onstage, making the moment all the more poignant.

4. Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder Keep Things Light

A victorious moment for Delena shippers, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder’s playful acceptance speech for the favorite on-screen chemistry award reminded us why they won the award in the first place. The stars’ banter about playing an on-screen couple after a real-life breakup made it clear that these co-stars are still the best of friends.

5. Britney Spears Wins Her First People’s Choice Award

Britney will always have a special place in the heart of any ’90’s girl, so we were thrilled to see her win favorite pop artist. How Britney made it this far without winning a People’s Choice Award is beyond us, but we’re glad she finally got the recognition she deserves!

That rounds out our picks for the top five moments of the 2014 People’s Choice Awards, but we’d love to hear about your favorite moments, dresses and speeches, and don’t forget to tell us which award show you’re most excited about this season!
