Things Got Creepy AF In This Meghan Markle Interview From 2013 & We’re Still Wondering How This Happened

Rewatching cringe-inducing celeb interviews is a guilty pleasure because it helps put our own awkwardness into perspective. Maybe our inclination toward these uncomfy clips is partly due to how celebs respond to absurd questions, or maybe it’s because we’re just glad it isn’t happening to us. Nevertheless, our low-key obsession with weirdly awkward celeb interviews is probably why Meghan Markle creepy interview from 2013 resurfaced.

According to Hollywood Life, during an interview on U.K.’s Late Late Show, host Craig Ferguson came off creepy really quickly into the interview with the now-duchess. While the footage is approximately five years old, it isn’t any less cringe-worthy.

Shortly after Markle told Ferguson that she’s originally from California, she jokingly said that he could “pinch [her]” to show that true Los Angelos-ites do exist. After Ferguson went along and pinched her, he commented on her “hairless body.”

“Strangely hairless body you have. You’re quite the dolphin aren’t you?” Ferguson asked Markle. However, he double-downed on his creepiness when he asked, “You’re absolutely hair-free?” (As if I needed another reason to feel vicariously anxious.)

As Cosmopolitan reports, Meghan somehow went along with the increasingly innuendoed banter. Honestly, we’re surprised she didn’t walk out of the interview, because we probably would have. While Markle’s resilience to creepiness is inspiration enough, there are obviously plenty of other reasons to idolize Meghan Markle.

Chelsea is the Health Editor and How She Got There Editor for Her Campus. In addition to editing articles about mental health, women's health and physical health, Chelsea contributes to Her Campus as a Feature Writer, Beauty Writer, Entertainment Writer and News Writer. Some of her unofficial, albeit self-imposed, responsibilities include arguing about the Oxford comma, fangirling about other writers' articles, and pitching Her Campus's editors shamelessly nerdy content (at ambiguously late/early hours, nonetheless). When she isn't writing for Her Campus, she is probably drawing insects, painting with wine or sobbing through "Crimson Peak."
