Texas Is Eliminating Funding to Planned Parenthood

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Monday that the state will eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood due to concern about the organization’s fetal tissue donations. His statement says that Medicaid will no longer be involved with the organization, which means government funding will be cut off.

The governer’s statement argued “that Planned Parenthood and its affiliates are no longer capable of performing medical services in a professionally competent, safe, legal and ethical manner.” However, Planned Parenthood has stated that they will no longer accept reimbursements for expenses related to donated fetal tissue in order to discourage people from attacking their organization.

Defunding Planned Parenthood will undoubtedly have a huge impact on women in Texas.
