We’ve seen a lot happen in the latest season of Teen Mom 2.
We’ve watched Jenelle relapse on drugs and head to rehab; Leah walk down the aisle and then sadly sign divorce papers a short six months later; Kailyn argue with Jo over custody and child support; and Chelsea struggle in her rocky back-and-forth relationship with baby daddy Adam. But out of all this drama, we learned some lessons along the way. Here’s what we’ll miss about the Teen Moms and the lessons learned this season:
Lesson Learned from Jenelle: Actions have their consequences.
Remember when Jenelle and Kieffer broke into his friend’s beach house and got high? It turns out that wasn’t such a great idea. Jenelle had to learn from her mistakes the hard way and was sentenced to 12 months supervised probation, meaning she couldn’t drink alcohol or smoke marijuana. We felt terrible for Jenelle as she sobbed and sobbed, but her probation turned out to maybe be the best thing that could have happened to her. In a more sober state of mind, Jenelle was forced to face the consequences of her actions and re-prioritize things in her life. She was back to hanging out with her son Jace and finally decided to go to rehab to better herself. By the end of the season, after episodes of drama with her mom and parking lot fights with Kieffer, she took control of her life.
Lesson Learned from Leah: Put family first.
We can’t help but look back at the Simms family portrait (you know, the one where Corey’s wearing that camo cap) and long for the sweeter days for lovebirds Corey and Leah. And while her marriage to Corey might not have worked out, no one can ever say that Leah didn’t put her baby girls first. Twins like Ali and Aleeah can be a double-handful, but Leah always made the balance between her work life and her home life a priority. She even put $500 of her hard-earned cash to layaway presents for her adorable daughters around Christmas time.
Lesson Learned from Chelsea: Don’t let a guy get you down.
Oh, Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea. This girl has come so far when it comes to love that so many times, we really thought she had put Adam behind her! Their relationship always fell into the same pattern: he’s sweet and flirty, she becomes attached to him, he becomes distant, cheats on her, and then breaks her heart. If we’ve learned one thing from Chelsea, it’s that what’s familiar, isn’t always healthy or the best thing for us. So what if you’re heartbroken? Distract yourself! That’s what Chelsea did by studying for her GED, working at a tanning salon, spending time with Aubrey, even donating to charity! After this season’s finale, we’re not sure where Chelsea and Adam are headed, but we’re sure she will bounce back no matter what happens.
Lesson Learned from Kailyn: Be proud of your independence.
When you’re raising a baby, moms need a strong support system. But oftentimes, you can only rely on yourself. Out of all the Teen Moms, Kailyn has to be the most inspiringly independent. She’s raising Isaac all on her own, without the help of her mom, ex-boyfriend, or any friends. Jo might have Isaac for the weekends, but Kail is basically ridin’ solo the rest of the time. We felt bad for Kailyn in the moments when she was overwhelmed by her independence, like when the tension between Kail and her became too much and she moved out of her mom’s house or when her car broke down. But she always wiped her face clean of tears and rallied through her situation (with or without anyone’s help).
