Six members of the Phi Mu sorority at the University of Southern Mississippi have been placed on probation after dressing in blackface for a 1980s-themed costume party.
The women were portraying members of the Huxtable family from “The Cosby Show”. Both the university and the sorority have confirmed the incident and have taken measures to rectify it.
The vice president of student affairs, Joe Paul, reports that executive members of Phi Mu and the six unidentified women met with African-American student leaders on Sunday.
More disciplinary action may be taken against the students, reports the Huffington Post.The chapter is expected to host a diversity appreciation program on campus.
