Sarah of Sparah on How to Be the It-Girl On Campus!

Whether you’re a high school grad going into freshman year or you’re heading back for your last year of college, at the beginning of every year, we all walk on to campus hoping to be that girl — the one guys want and the one girls want to be…okay, enough with the clichés. Regardless, Her Campus went straight to the source — fabricated (but still famous in her own right!) celebrity Sarah Carroll of Sparah for Virgin Mobile. Here’s what she had to say about being the back-to-school it-girl!

Who wouldn’t love to be the it-girl on campus? What are your tips to making a good first impression?

I have three tips for making a great first impression:

  1. Always look a person in the eyes when talking to them — because that tells them that you have absolutely nothing to hide.
  2. GIRLS! Make sure you have a firm handshake!!! It’s not just for men.
  3. Be confident and be yourself and you can’t go wrong.

If you only had 10 minutes to get ready before heading out the door, what would you prioritize (e.g. what you would wear, your beauty routine, etc.)?

When I am in a hurry and crunched for time, I always seem to throw on a dress. You can never go wrong with a cute dress. Make-up wise, I would resort to a tinted moisturizer, some blush and mascara (Mascara makes ALL the difference!). And lastly, throw my hair in a cute pony tail and mess it up a bit for the “I didn’t spend any time on my hair and it still looks good” look. Girls — we all know what I am talking about ;)

What’s your go-to outfit when you’re dressing to impress?

A DRESS! Like it says in one of my favorite songs — A dress has always been my strongest suit.

We all want to look our best on campus — but as you know (and have experienced firsthand), wardrobe malfunctions do happen. How does a girl recover from an embarrassing wardrobe slip?

Laugh it off and learn to make fun of yourself. Nothing is sexier than a girl who doesn’t take herself too seriously. No one is perfect and who would want to be?! How boring.

What’s your number one tip to staying fit and avoiding the Freshman 15?

EXERCISE!!! Not only is it healthy but working out is totally hot. Try to avoid junk food or fast food (YES, even after a night of partying — NO TACO BELL! Don’t do it!). And also remember that alcohol has a lot of calories so take it easy and do everything in moderation.

What are your top three dating dealbreakers?

  1. I can’t stand a flaky guy. It doesn’t take any time out of your day to call or send a courtesy text if you can’t meet up.
  2. BAD HYGIENE! A guy should smell good and brush his teeth. I don’t think that is a lot to ask.
  3. Lying. If he lies about the little things then you better believe he will lie about the big things.

What is your favorite way to unwind from a long, busy day?

Cuddling on the couch in my pajamas with a glass of wine watching a movie :) <3
