Double dates can be really romantic or just plain awkward. For Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, it was a little bit of both. In SiriusXM’s Entertainment Weekly Radio Deadpool special, Reynolds shared the story of how he and his wife fell in love: while on a date with other people!
Reynolds and Lively met on the set of the 2011 film Green Lantern. Though the film itself “obviously didn’t work,” Reynolds has no regrets because it was where he and his future wife started out their relationship as “buddies.”
A year after Green Lantern, they decided as friends to go on a double date with other people. But things didn’t go so well, at least for the dates they brought along. Reynolds admits there were “fireworks” between him and Lively, rather than with the girl he was actually dating.
While that had to be undoubtedly awkward for their respective dates, we’re glad things worked out between Reynolds and Lively. The couple got married in 2012 and last year, their beautiful daughter James was born.
When reminiscing on how their relationship unfolded, the actor added, “I think the best way to have a relationship is to start as friends.”
