Ron Paul, a Republican presidential hopeful, is aiming to put an end to federal student loans.Â
Â
At the risk of losing a significant following of young voters, Paul unveiled a plan last week that would cut $1 trillion from the federal budget that would eradicate five Cabinet departments, including education.
Â
Paul believes it is a “failed program” that has put college students into historical amounts of debt. While the student loan program will not be affected by the aforementioned plan, Paul did tell NBC’s “Meet the Press” that if he were president, he would effectively eliminate federal student loans.
Â
Paul, who also wants younger workers to opt out of Social Security, believes that government intervention in the economic sector is to blame for rising tuition costs.Â
