Ron Burgundy to Share His Wisdom with Emerson College

For one day in early December, Emerson College has decided to rename their communications department “The Rob Burgundy School of Communication” to honor the fictitious television anchorman from the Anchorman movies.

Actor Will Ferrell, who stars in the hilarious comedy, will visit the Boston school on December 4th as the character of Ron Burgundy to share his wisdom of the journalism industry. His visit will include a morning news conference, the school renaming ceremony and an early screening of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which opens in theaters on December 20th.

“A visit from Ron Burgundy is a chance to engage with someone who understands the power of media, as well as hairspray, first-hand,” Emerson College President Lee Pelton said in a statement

Ferrell’s Burgundy character plans to use the day-long Emerson visit to “share his path to journalism greatness.”

Emerson’s School of Communication students pursue careers in political communication, nonprofit advocacy, journalism, marketing, speech pathology and more. Additionally, Emerson’s School of the Arts has nationally recognized programs in film; visual media; performing arts; and writing, literature and publishing.

“I had to pinch myself really hard when I learned that Emerson College was naming its School of Communication for me. It’s kind of a big deal,” said ‘Burgundy’ in a press release. “I can’t wait to inspire students with my story of how I got to the top…the very top. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. It’s a lot of work, especially if you don’t have good hair.”

According to Interim Dean of the School of Communication Phillip Glenn, “Naming our school in his honor—for one entire day—compels us to honor the Ron Burgundy that’s inside all of us…to live out our dreams, in full color and matching polyester.”

This isn’t the only publicity Burgundy has seen in the last few weeks. The Newseum in Washington, D.C. recently opened an exhibit dedicated to the film, which features original props and a replica of Burgundy’s anchor desk. There’s also an underwear marketing partnership with Jockey in the works.

Starting at 11:00 am (EST) on December 4th, the naming ceremony will be streamed live on Emerson’s website
