Newscaster and Good Morning America anchorwoman Robin Roberts came out in a Facebook post this past Sunday, December 29th. In the post, Roberts thanks her family and friends for their support in her battle against breast cancer, her myelodysplastic syndrome diagnosis, and her subsequent bone marrow transplant, specifically thanking her longtime girlfriend Amber Laign.

While this relationship was known to Roberts’ family and friends for quite some time, this was Roberts’ first public acknowledgement of her sexual orientation. We are happy to hear that Roberts has had such a strong support system and partnership to help her through her health battles. Roberts’ announcement this weekend has spurred an outpouring of support from celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and First Lady Michelle Obama. We wish Roberts and Laign a happy and healthy 2014!
