The Queen of England reportedly put down her last corgi on Sunday, April 15, 2018. The 14-year-old corgi, Willow, was euthanized after a struggle with cancer.
According to royal sources, the Queen has owned over 30 corgis since being gifted one on her 18th birthday in 1944. Her first corgi’s name was Susan, and Willow was a part of her corgi lineage. The Queen stopped breeding the dogs after 2015 in a fear that she might leave them behind.
But just because Willow was the Queen’s last corgi doesn’t mean she was the Queen’s last dog. The Queen still has two “dorgis,” dachshund-corgi mixes named Candy and Vulcan.
However, the Queen is understandably devastated at the loss of one of her beloved pets. Buckingham Palace sources say that “it feels like the end of an era” since Willow was one of the last links left to the Queen’s childhood.

Willow had previously appeared with the Queen on the cover of Vanity Fair in 2016 and in the 2012 London Olympics opening sketch. Royal life without the corgis surely sounds more empty.
Official comments from Buckingham Palace have yet to be released, with sources respecting the Queen’s grieving process. Twitter, however, is visibly distraught.
