‘Pretty Little Liars’ Recap: Missed Connections

This week’s episode of Pretty Little Liars starts out like any other. Who are we kidding? It absolutely does not.

Mary Drake drives Hanna back to Spencer’s house, all the while lamenting her tragic upbringing as a twin.

With Hanna safely returned, the gang is all, “Hanna, Mary Drake is evil.” But Mary seems to have no problem with the Liars now that they’ve given her the information she wanted.

Guess it’s okay to kidnap someone as long as you send them an ugly bouquet of flowers afterward.

Caleb, Spencer and Emily take Hanna back to Lucas’s apartment, where you probably won’t remember she was staying before her abduction.

More importantly, Caleb and Hanna whisper intimately and give me ALL the Haleb feels.

Spencer seems to be suspicious of the former flames, but she tries not to let it show—except for that single glistening tear that falls down her cheek as she realizes she and Caleb are a dull couple lacking in sexual tension.

Elsewhere, Alison calls Emily (or so it seems). We hear Ali begging Emily to help her, and there is another woman’s voice in the background. But this conversation was never explained, so…

Everyone pretends Hanna was never even held captive in her underwear, including Lucas who shows up trying to give Hanna a job of some type.

Aria ~*finally*~ breaks up with #FiveYearsForward dud Liam. But wait…Liam is working on Ezria’s book project again. Oh, the timing of this revelation.

Flashback time! Cue the memories of Hanna meeting Jordan for the first time. The chemistry they lacked last season is suddenly apparent, and I start to think they might not be such a terrible couple if I never knew about the wonder that is Haleb.

Emily leads the charge to confront Rollins about Ali, but sadly, the Liars are still as clueless as ever.

Meanwhile, Hanna shows up to Jordan’s office in NYC looking hot AF and tries to recreate the magic.

Things get real awkward with Ezra and Liam when Liam figures out Ezria was once just a salacious dalliance between teacher and student.

After realizing the restaurant where she met Jordan has been torn down, Hanna decides to dump her fiancé, and I cannot believe this is what it took for her to end things.

Emily finagles her way into seeing Alison with the help of Mary Drake, and this is the moment she kind of, sort of realizes Rollins and Mary might be in cahoots. Eureka!

At the end of the episode, Ali is wheeled out of the hospital and into a bright light that I assume can only look so weird because it is something she has not seen in such a long time: the sun!
