‘Outer Banks’ Will Be Back For Season 4 — Here’s What We Know

Nothing is more exciting than hearing that your favorite show is being renewed for a new season, especially when you don’t have to wait long to hear the news. Outer Banks fans, I’m looking at you. Yes, you heard that right, OBX is confirmed for a Season 4. The news came just days before the release of Outer Banks Season 3, which premiered on Feb. 23.

At the Poguelandia Outer Banks experience that took place on Feb. 18, the cast of the Pogue friend group we all know and love — Madelyn Cline, Chase Stokes, Rudy Pankow, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, and Carlacia Grant — as well as the faces behind the infamous Kooks, Drew Starkey and Austin North, joined together on stage to announce to the crowd that the show has been renewed for a fourth season. The official Netflix Twitter account also released a statement confirming the news: “BREAKING NEWS OUT OF POGUELANDIA: The Pogues (P4L) just dropped a bombshell. @obxnetflix has been renewed for Season 4!”

The show’s co-creators, executive producers, and showrunners Jonas Pate, Jonathan Pate, and Shannon Burke said in a joint statement: “The Pogues are enjoying an adventure of a lifetime and we now get to map out more twists and turns as the joyride continues into Season 4 of Outer Banks. Thank you to Netflix, our cast, and the amazing fans who helped to make this happen.” You might still be debriefing from the chaos of Season 3, but nothing ever slows down in the land of the OBX — here’s everything we know about Season 4. Warning: Spoilers for Outer Banks Season 3 follow.

The plot of Season 4 will *possibly* follow a historically popular treasure.

For the past three seasons, the treasure of Outer Banks has remained local and related to the Pogues and Kooks of the island. From the gold of the Royal Merchant in Season 1 to El Dorado in Season 3, the Pogues seem to cover all their bases when it comes to family heirlooms and historical treasures. In the Season 3 finale, it appeared that the Poguelandia friend group finally completed the treasure hunt of Outer Banks’ history, including finding the gold of El Dorado.

18 months after the discovery the town celebrated the crew’s victory and they all seemed to get their happy ending. With the gold, Kie is working on saving turtles, Pope is going to school, JJ got a charter boat, and John B and Sarah opened up a surf shop. It almost felt like their story was coming to an end, but then, they were approached by a man with an enticing proposition.

The man needed the Pogues’ help with a manuscript he had been working on. The manuscript contained a captain’s log with the exact date and time a ship first and last sailed. The captain? Well, none other than Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard. The season ended with the group exchanging mischievous glances — I think we know where this is heading.

Though there has yet to be any talk about what Season 4 will be focused on, it seems like the group’s treasure hunt isn’t over. The season finale set it up as if the Pogues will be expanding their conquistador skills to Blackbeard’s famous pirate exhibition. He was a famous pirate known for his reign along the North Carolina coast, which is where he died in 1718. Legend says that he has a great buried treasure that has yet to be discovered. Will the Pogues be the ones to do so?

Additionally, Season 3 explored the beginnings of love stories for multiple couples from Pope and Cleo to Kiara and JJ. If the show continues to develop these relationships, then viewers can expect to see more romance between the Pogues. I mean, how cute was that hand-holding scene between Pope and Cleo at the ceremony? I hope their story isn’t over yet.

Since it is such early days, viewers probably won’t get a glimpse into Season 4 for a while, but if we know one thing about the Pogues, it’s that there is always a treasure to be hunted.

Fans are hoping all the cast will return for Season 4.

What makes the Poguelandia group feel like our on-screen best friends is the chemistry of the cast off-screen. All the cast of the group were present for the Season 4 announcement, so fans are hoping that means they will reprise their roles. There has yet to be any confirmation on this, but fingers are crossed.

There has not been any further information on the release date of the show, so in the meantime, let yourself relax from all the ups and downs of Season 3. And remember: Pogues for life!
