After mourning over the loss of Vine, it looks like the much loved short, looping video app is back. Well, sort of. Vine creator Dom Hofmann announced on Twitter Thursday that the video hosting platform’s successor is set to debut in spring 2019, and we could not be any more excited.
According to Hofmann’s announcement, Vine 2.0 will be called “Byte.”

In the announcement, Hofmann wrote that he had been working on a “new looping video app” and that it will be “launching spring 2019.”
We don’t have too many details about the new app, besides its name and logo. Although, it does have a Twitter and Instagram account already (@byte_app), TechCrunch reports. From the sound of things, though, it seems like the new app will function similarly to Vine, with short, looping videos.
After Twitter acquired Vine in 2016, the social media platform ultimately shut it down due to declining user engagement, Buzzfeed News reports. Vine’s cofounder Rus Yusupov blamed Twitter’s mishandling of the company as the reason for its demise.
Considering the insane outpouring of grief when Vine shut down, it makes sense why people are so excited about the debut of Vine’s successor. Hofmann’s announcement sent waves of excitement, with fans posting hilarious jokes and celebrating that “Vine lives.”

Fans have also been coming up with names for those that will use Byte, and what the app’s glitches and complications will be called.
