Octavia Spencer is Planning to Buy Out a Screening of ‘Black Panther’ for Underserved Mississippi Community

It looks like Marvel’s Black Panther isn’t the only new superhero: Octavia Spencer is, too.

On Wednesday, Spencer wrote on her Instagram account that she will be in Mississippi when “Black Panther” opens in theaters, and wants to buy out a screening of the film to allow families in underdeveloped communities to see it, Entertainment Weekly reports.

“I will be in MS when this movie opens. I think I will buy out a theatre in an underserved community there to ensure that all our brown children can see themselves as a superhero. I will let you know where and when Mississippi. Stay tuned. #KingsAndQueensWillRise,” Spencer wrote, featuring a promotional image for the film.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Spencer made a similar move in the past when she bought out a screening for her film “Hidden Figures” in Los Angeles so those who could not afford to see the inspirational movie had the opportunity to.

“My mom would not have been able to afford to take me and my siblings. If you know a family in need that would like to see our movie but can’t afford it have them come,” Spencer wrote in an Instagram post in January last year, The Huffington Post reports.

Although “Black Panther” hasn’t officially been released yet, according to HuffPost, the film has been getting some stellar reviews, with critics calling the film “astonishing,” “game-changing,” “iconic” and “exceptional.”

“Black Panther” hits theaters on February 16. We are so proud of Octavia Spencer for fighting for representation and for ensuring that everyone will be able to see this film.
