NEWSFLASH: Need-to-Know Stories 04/07 – 04/13

While more political drama with North Korea unfolded, Britain’s infamous Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher, passed away following years of health problems in London. While her passing was relatively peaceful, drama continues to unfold in a Philadelphia courtroom in a disturbing trial involving a Philadelphia doctor who made a living snipping the spines of late-term aborted fetuses, many of whom exhibited signs of life.

Welcome back to NEWSFLASH!

Ex-British PM Margaret Thatcher Dies at 87

Former British Prime Minister and leader of Britain’s Conservative Party, Margaret Thatcher, passed away on Monday at the age of 87.

The Iron Lady, as she was called, governed the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990. She was the country’s first ever female Prime Minister and so far remains the last woman to have held the post.

Thatcher’s rule was highly controversial, as she faced off with unions and unraveled many of Britain’s traditional social policies at the time. She is largely associated with the privatization of numerous state-run industries and the stand-off with unions during the year-long Miners’ Strike in 1984.

No official state funeral will be held for Thatcher. Her death, however, has sparked demonstrations against her previous rule, such as when hundreds gathered in London’s Trafalgar Square.

Philadelphia Abortion Doctor in “House of Horrors” Trial, Charged with Murdering Live Fetuses Post-Abortion

While the trial of Kermit Gosnell, 72, officially began on March 18, the media only recently picked up on what many are calling a “house of horrors” trial with the most devastating details.

Gosnell, the Philadelphia-based doctor in question, is charged with seven counts of first-degree murder and one count of third-degree murder, both for the murder of seven live fetuses and one woman from Bhutan. The doctor was reported to have snipped the spinal cords of seven fetuses who exhibited signs of life following late-term abortions. He also reportedly administered a lethal dose of painkillers to Bhutanese refugee Karnamaya Mongar, killing the 90-pound woman.

Gosnell’s former employees are testifying against him, revealing that while the doctor is only being charged for the death of seven fetuses, he had in fact killed more and even trained his staff to do the same. As more details emerged from the case, it also became clear that Gosnell’s women’s health clinic, the Women’s Medical Society, had undertrained staff members that frequently performed abortions in some of the most unsanitary and disturbing circumstances.

Previous inspections done by officials on the Women’s Medical Society largely went unheeded, even if many inspectors reported that conditions were insufficient for the clinic to be conducting abortions. 46 lawsuits had also apparently been filed against Gosnell over 32 years prior to the current allegations as well.

You can view the Grand Jury Report for the Gosnell case here for more information. (WARNING! The report also contains graphic and disturbing photos of Gosnell’s late-term aborted babies.)
