A family in Long Branch, New Jersey is torn apart this New Years as a 16-year-old boy used a semi-automatic rifle to kill his parents, sister, and a family friend, CBS News reported. The child’s name is not being released yet but the victims names were Steven Kologi, dad, Linda Kologi, mom, Brittany Kologi, sister, and Mary Shultz, family friend. The brother and grandfather of the boy survived the attack.
The New York Daily News reports that the boy is being charged as an adult with four counts of murder and one count of possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.
Monmouth County Prosecuter, Chris Gramiccioni emphasized to the Long Branch community that this was a domestic issue and the public shouldn’t be worried for their safety. Gramiccioni also stated that the 16-year-old is in custody but no motive has been reported.
Gramiccioni said during a press conference that the 16-year-old would be charged as an adult and face all four counts of murder. As NBC News reported, the weapon was owned legally and registered to a family member.
