Michelle Obama Releases a Song With Your Favorite Female Artists

One of the most empowering things in this world is when a group of strong women gets together to support a cause, which is exactly what Michelle Obama is making happen.

The First Lady rounded up vocal powerhouses like Kelly Clarkson, Lea Michele, Janelle Monae, Missy Elliot, Kelly Rowland and Zendaya to collaborate on “This Is For My Girls.”

“This Is For My Girls” is a song about female empowerment, supporting the Let Girls Learn and Girl Rising initiatives. These campaigns are meant to spread awareness and bring about change for over 62 million girls internationally who don’t receive the education they deserve. Worldwide, there are upwards of 20 countries that still discriminate against the idea of girls receiving an education.

Unfortunately, girls can be prevented from going to school for many different reasons such as conflict in the area they live in, unsanitary water (which girls often collect—a task that can take as long as six hours), adolescent marriage (40,000 girls under the age of 18 are forced into marriage every day, and 90% of them will get pregnant between ages 15 and 19), and/or being forced into work (some begin working as young as 5 years old).

The song was written by Diane Warren, who has been Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe-nominated and has won a Grammy. Her most recent hit? “Til It Happens to You,” which she co-wrote with Lady Gaga.

“This Is For My Girls” is now available on iTunes. Plus, you can go to Girl Rising to sign the pledge to help #62MillionGirls receive the education they deserve. Because if we don’t help our sisters, who will?
