8 Of The Biggest ‘Mean Girls’ Easter Eggs In The Musical Movie

Fans of the OG Mean Girls film will be excited to know that the new Mean Girls musical movie is filled with easter eggs. The new Mean Girls film is a modern spin on the 2004 cult classic with some fun songs from the Broadway musical.

If you’re a fan of Mean Girls like me, you’ll be thrilled to hear some of the lines from the OG film in the new one. It’s hard to top a classic comedy like Mean Girls, but Tina Fey has proven the story is as funny and entertaining as ever, and with these easter eggs, it’s clear that the musical movie paid homage to the iconic film it’s modeled after. Here are eight of the biggest easter eggs you may (or may not) have caught when watching the 2024 film that you can look out for during your rewatch.

1. “On Wednesdays, we wear pink.”

The scene where Cady (Angourie Rice) learns the Plastics rules has a ton of lines from the OG movie. Most notable is, of course, when Karen (Avantika Vandanapu) says, “On Wednesdays, we wear pink.” This is one of the most famous lines from the OGMean Girls. Hearing it again in theaters was just so “fetch.”

2. “Almost too gay to function.”

The burn book is a huge part of the plot. In the book, Cady writes that Damian (Jaquel Spivey) is “almost too gay to function.” The other burn book disses were different in the new film, but this one was too iconic to change.

Damian also has a funny comeback at the beginning of the film when Janice (Auli’i Cravalho) tells Cady the joke. Spivey hilariously delivers the line, “But I push through.”

3. “It’s October 3rd.”

Ever since the OG movie came out, Oct. 3 has been deemed Mean Girls day. Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney), Cady’s new crush and Regina George’s (Renee Rapp) ex, famously asks Cady what day it is in class one day. The day, of course, was Oct. 3.

4. “Grool.”

Frazzled by Aaron inviting her to a party, Cady accidentally says “grool.” Just like in the OG film, she thought about saying cool but then ended up saying mixing it with great instead. Thus, “grool was born.

5. “You go, Glen Coco.”

Around Christmas, the students at North Shore send candy grams to each other. Cady devises a plan to send one to herself but says it’s from Regina to make Gretchen (Bebe Wood) upset. Damian dresses up as Santa Claus, enters Cady and Grethen’s class, and hands out the candy grams. A student named Glen Coco gets four candy grams sent to him. Damian then says one of the best lines from the film while giving them to him, “Four for you, Glen Coco. You go, Glen Coco.”

6. “Oh, Kevin G.”

The Kevin G. and the power of 3 Talent Show performance is one of my favorite scenes from the OG movie. Kevin Gnapoor (Mahi Alam) delivers a rap song with backup dancers and gets kicked off the stage by Principal Duvall (Tim Meadows). Some bars were added to the rap, but the iconic “Oh, Kevin G” is still included.

7. “The limit does not exist.”

At the Mathletes state competition, Cady has to answer a tie-breaker question to win it all. The math equation she had to solve was the same as in the original Mean Girls movie. The answer is, “The limit does not exist.”

“It’s just plastic.”

Even though the very end of the new musical movie is a bit different than the OG movie, the Spring Fling queen crowning was super similar. Cady sings the song “I See Stars” in the new movie. This song perfectly describes how the queen’s crown is just plastic, a great play on words with the popular girls being called The Plastics.
