Margot Robbie Has the Most Hilariously Awkward Story About Meeting Barack Obama on Her Honeymoon

The story of Margot Robbie’s honeymoon sounds too good to be true — but trust me — it happened. On The Ellen Degeneres Show on Wednesday, the actress recalled her time in Tahiti with her husband Tom Ackerley and it involves a few very important people, Ellen being one of them.

Robbie begins the story explaining how it was a rainy day on the island and the couple decided to go to the gym. Ackerley only had one pair of shorts for the gym and they were *very* short. Robbie expressed how revealing they were and she told him, “You cannot wear those shorts! They’re like… you know, I can see everything.” He did anyway and what happens next is too funny. “So we walk into the gym and running on the treadmill is Ellen,” Robbie laughs. “And then on the treadmill next to her is Portia, her wife. Already Tom and I are like, ‘Oh. My. God.’ And Tom’s face has just gone white.”

After the awkward realization that they’ve just run into the couple, they realize Ellen and Portia aren’t alone. “And then you’re [Ellen] like, ‘Have you met Obama?’ And we were like, ‘What?’ And standing next to them was former President Barack Obama,” she said. “I’m not kidding. In a gym that was tiny.” LOL.

I’m sure at this point Tom regrets his short-shorts because Margot continues the story where the couple, along with Ellen, Portia and Obama participate in a stretching class. “We then had to do this whole like stretching class, but Tom meanwhile is trying to like, not reveal anything, and he’s dying and I’m crying so much I’m about to crack a rib,” Robbie laughs. “The gym instructor keeps saying to Tom, ‘Tom, lunge! Lunge! You’re not lunging!’ and Tom’s trying to lunge cross-legged and Obama’s like stepping over his legs to put his weights back.” OMG. Could you imagine?!

Though the story is so hilarious and also gives you a little secondhand embarrassment for Tom, I’m sure this story will make their honeymoon that much more memorable. The moral of the story is maybe short shorts to your workout class are never a good idea. You never know who you’ll see, even if you’re all the way in Tahiti.
