The final trailer for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was released today, and we’re SO ready for the sequel to be in theaters this July.
Though we love the female-led film and its fun ABBA music, as we watch the trailer, we can’t help but wonder: where is Meryl Streep? Sure, she’s in the trailer—but the trailer switches between past and present, and Meryl Streep’s character, Donna, is only there during past-tense scenes. In the latest Mamma Mia! installment, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is pregnant and we’ll see her try to make sense of it all by looking to her mother Donna’s experiences when she was pregnant with Sophie.
According to Vanity Fair, rumors about Donna’s death started when the first trailer was released, due to the lack of any conversation about Donna in the present tense. Now, this final trailer neither confirms nor denies these rumors, so guess we’ll just have to wait until July 20 to find out what, if anything, happened to Donna.
