Lose the Freshman 15: Jillian’s Yoga Toners

A few hours after I posted my blog yesterday about my love-hate (mostly hate) relationship with running, I hit the treadmill.

It was rough. After 1.5 miles I called it quits and switched over to an incline walk. I know that my goal is 2 miles, but after a few years of refusing to run, it’s not going to happen on a whim. I hope to work my way up to the full 2 miles by the end of this week, but in the mean time I’m going to start doing Jillian’s yoga toners.

Jillian Michaels developed a work out composed of six pretty basic yoga poses. You go through the whole set five times and hold each position for 30 seconds each. Here’s her awesome plan:

Upper Body Buffer: Sit with knees bent, feet flat on ground, hands under shoulders, fingers facing heels. Lift hips so body is in a tabletop position, chin lifted. Walk feet away from body until legs are straight and press heels into ground (as shown). Hold.

Totally Transformer: Start in Downward Dog. Keeping left arm planted, drop hips to plank and rotate torso onto left side, then keep going so you are face-up, with right knee bent, foot on ground, left leg extended, and right arm reaching overhead (as shown). Hold; switch sides; repeat.

Thigh Master: Stand with feet hip-width apart. Extend right leg in front at hip level, then cross it over left leg, hooking right foot behind left calf. Cross right elbow over left and bend both 90 degrees, palms touching. Press arms up as you deepen knee bend (as shown). Hold; switch sides; repeat.

Booty Lifter: Stand with feet hip-width apart. Bend and grab left ankle with both hands. Keeping left knee soft, raise right leg behind you, foot flexed (as shown). Hold; switch sides; repeat.

Shoulder Shaper: Start in plank position. Bend elbows, resting forearms on ground with hands interlaced. Walk feet toward hands, coming into an inverted V (as shown). Relax neck as you drive heels toward ground. Hold.

Hoping this thigh master does some work,

Samantha
