Will There Be A ‘Lisa Frankenstein’ Sequel? The Movie Ends On A Major Cliffhanger

In the wise words of Taylor Swift, “I died, dead.” As soon as I saw the first trailer for Focus Pictures’ brand new film, Lisa Frankenstein, I knew that it was going to become my new personality. With a cast that has Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse playing love interests, you can’t help but not be excited to see them decked out in ‘80s attire. The movie also marks the return of fan-favorite screenwriter Diablo Cody (who wrote another horror movie for the girls, aka the cult classic Jennifer’s Body) and the directorial debut of Zelda Williams. Needless to say, I was not disappointed with the visuals and characters of this world.

As a girl who grew up loving Jennifer’s Body and as a self-proclaimed horror connoisseur, I found myself in love with this romantic comedy. Even if you’re not a fan of horror, there are certain elements of the film that I can guarantee audiences will be talking about after they see the film. If you’re also like me and saw this movie as soon as it came out, then you probably have a lot of questions about the ending. Don’t worry, we’re here to help you get some answers. Spoiler Warning: Spoilers for Lisa Frankenstein follow.

What happens to Lisa at the end of Lisa Frankenstein?

Towards the end of the film, we find Lisa (Newton) and the creature (Sprouse) running away from the authorities. Throughout the film, the two of them attempt to find body parts to get the creature back to his “normal” state to make him more human. Lisa and the creature end up becoming good friends and bonding, forging a romance between them.

After the disappearance of one of Lisa’s classmates who sexually assaulted her, Lisa is questioned by the police as a suspect. As Lisa is trying to run away from being caught, she goes to the house of Michael Trent, a fellow student & editor of a magazine that she reads in school. Upon going to Michael’s house, Lisa finds out that he’s been secretly seeing her stepsister Taffy behind her back. In a moment of anguish, the creature lashes out at Michael, killing him.

As Lisa begins to figure out that the authorities are onto her, she decides that the only way to become free is to kill herself. In an emotional moment before she steps inside the tanning bed that brought the creature back to life, the two share one final moment together.

What happens at the end of the film?

At the end of the film, weeks have passed and Lisa’s father and step sister show up to her grave with flowers. They notice that on Lisa’s grave, one thing has now been added: a statement that Lisa was a loving wife. The two think that it’s some sort of joke that someone engraved on Lisa’s grave, but there is black slime inside of the engraving.

In a post-credit scene, we see that the creature is now able to speak and talk, as he’s reading literature to someone next to him. We find out that Lisa, wrapped up in bandages, has come back to life and is with the creature.

Will there be a sequel to Lisa Frankenstein?

It’s not yet clear if there will be a sequel to Lisa Frankenstein, but the post-credit scene definitely sets up an opportunity for the film to expand more in the Lisa Frankenstein universe.
