Liked “Airplanes”? Then You’ll Love This Song!!

Rarely, if ever, do I feature music on HC Approved!. I tend to leave the music expertise from HC up to Gennifer Delman (who does a fantastic job with the site playlists). However, the duo Kinetics & One Love deserves the HC seal of approval as their music truly speaks to college students.

The group is made up of Jeremy Dussolliet (Kinetics) and Tim Sommers (One Love), who met as undergraduates at Cornell University. They have since graduated, but continue to work together and make beautiful music. Maybe you’ve heard of the little-known song, “Airplanes” by B.o.B. ft. Haley Williams? Yeah, they’re responsible for that incredibly catchy chorus that you were listening to all summer.

They have released a ton of other song too, which you can check out on their YouTube channel. My personal favorite? The Kinetics & One Love Graduation Song.

But their new song —  “Sign Language” which features Wynter Gordon (heard on The Graduation Song and “Sugar” with Flo Rida) is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

The song is a heartbreaking love song, touching on the consequences of not speaking your mind. Like all of their songs, it also has an incredible beat and well-written lyrics.

Jeremy explained the meaning of the song to Her Campus: “This was a song I had written years ago, before I started working with One Love — back when my production quality was horrible. Given all the teen suicides surfacing in headlines in recent weeks, we felt it was appropriate timing to revisit an old idea, this time taking advantage of better production and our relationship with Wynter Gordon to achieve a more relative sound and reach a larger audience.”

Listen to this song below and let me know what you think of it! Kinetics & One Love have tons of songs that really speak to the college experience, and are definitely worth checking out. When they inevitably make it big you can say you’ve been a fan forever!
