Life After Steve Carrell: Why “The Office” Is Still Worth It

The return of The Office to Thursday nights on NBC minus The World’s Best Boss, Michael Scott, has viewers reconsidering their return to Scranton, Pennsalyvania this season. A recent Fall TV survey conducted by Yahoo! TV and Entertainment Weekly found that despite the cliff-hanger season finale, only 11% of viewers said they will “definitely” continue watching the award-winning mockumentary now that Steve Carrell has left the Sabre-Dunder Mifflin building.

Having been a faithful fan of The Office since the very first “That’s what she said!” and Pam’s first engagement, I was a little shocked. What about the suspense that’s been building all summer? Doesn’t everyone want to know to who Dwight will seek revenge on next? Doesn’t everyone want to see a paper salesman start another terribly ill-advised but wildly funny office relationship? The answer is apparently, “Unless it’s  Steve Carrell, no thank you.” Don’t get me wrong, Michael Scott will be sorely missed, but there are many other amazing characters with great storylines that haven’t up and moved to Colorado.  Here are a few unresolved Season 7 issues that you should stick around for.

Is Angela Actually Getting Married?– When we last saw this little ray of sunshine, Angela was planning her wedding! To a gay (State) Senator! After all the times we’ve seen her almost get married, aren’t you finally ready for the real thing?

Who’s The New Manager? – Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that James Spader will be joining the cast for at least 15 episodes but not as manager. Read on for spoilers.

Who Pays for All of Andy’s Neckties? – Again,  has an (answer) of sorts. This season we’ll not only be meeting Andy’s parents but also his little brother played by an actor who loves to sing just as much as Andy.

There you go: three (office) life-changing questions that will be answered this season. I don’t know about the other 89% of unsure television viewers but until Andy, Kelly, Dwight, Angela, Erin and the rest of the Sabre-Dunder Mifflin team stop making me laugh hysterically, I will be standing proudly with the 11% who can’t wait for September 22nd.
