Kellie Pickler Crowned New Champ of ‘Dancing With the Stars’

It looks like Kellie Pickler’s dancing talent outweighs her singing talent! The southern belle and her dance partner, Derek Hough, were awarded with the Dancing with the Stars mirror ball trophy last night as the winners of season 16. Pickler is the first American Idol contestant to appear on the show and is the fourth singer to win the trophy.

Zendaya, a Disney actress, and her partner Val Chmerkovskly, won second place, Jacoby Jones, a Baltimore Ravens wide receiver, and his partner Karina Smirnoff won third place, and Aly Raisman, an Olympic gymnast, and her partner Mark Ballas finished in fourth.

Pickler and Hough earned a perfect score of 30 on Monday and Tuesday nights, and the fans’ love for the couple sent their point total straight to the top. The majority of the votes casted through text, calling, and Facebook were cast for Pickler and Hough.

When the pair won, Hough exclaimed “Grandpa Ken, we got you the trophy, buddy!” Ken Morton is Pickler’s grandpa, who is a longtime fan of the show. He prayed for Pickler to be paired with Hough and prayed for their win as well. Before the results were announced, Pickler said, “I’m kind of nervous that whoever wins tomorrow night, my grandpa might run out there and snatch the Mirror Ball trophy anyway!” Looks like Grandpa Ken got what he wished for!
