Kate Middleton Wins in Topless Photo Scandal

Tuesday, Sept. 18, only one day after Kate Middleton and Prince William filed criminal complaints in France, they received good news from a French court surrounding the duchess’s topless photo scandal, reported E! News after hearing from a palace spokeswoman.

A French court prevented Closer Magazine from running the photos and gave it 24 hours to surrender any and all digital copies of the images. If the editors of Closer do not follow the court’s orders, it risks receiving a fine of around $10,400.

According to E! News, the court has not only placed a ban on the magazine, but is also opening an investigation on the tabloid and photographer, Valerie Suau. Suau said she did shoot the released pictures from the couple’s vacation in France, but denies shooting anything that would be categorized as explicit. The investigation will determine whether or not the magazine and photographer will face charges for invading privacy.

France’s tabloids are not the only ones facing consequences for publishing topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge.

Michael O’Kane, editor of Irish Daily Star, was suspended on Sunday over the publication of the photos, said BBC. Irish Justice Minister Alan Shatter said that he will be reviewing the country’s privacy laws because they give publications room to interpret them differently.

The royal lawyers have yet to confirm whether or not they will be taking the same legal action against Chi that they did against its French sister publication, Closer.

Despite the photo scandal, the Duke and Duchess have kept their composure while continuing their Diamond Jubilee world tour.
