Johnny Depp Shocked Disneyland Guests by Playing Jack Sparrow On the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride

Yo ho! It was certainly a pirate’s life for actor Johnny Depp when he shocked guests at Disneyland on Wednesday. Entertainment Weekly reports Depp replaced the typically mechanical Jack Sparrow on the beloved Pirates of the Caribbean ride to many riders’ surprise.

A lucky group of guests managed to record the actor’s Oscar-worthy performance, and many of them took to social media to share the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

For the park-goers who weren’t fortunate enough to see him on the ride, Depp made sure to appear once more at night on the balcony above the ride’s entrance.

One bystander told E! News, “Everyone was surprised, shocked and excited to see him. He acted exactly like his character in the movies.”

Depp’s appearance marks roughly one month until the release of his new film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Hitting theaters May 29, the series’ fifth installment follows Jack Sparrow’s journey to locate a sea-controlling artifact before the ghost of a man he killed long ago takes revenge.

We think every Disney star should take advantage of this marketing strategy. Seriously, where was Emma Watson before Beauty and the Beast premiered?
