Jay-Z Shared the Most Adorable Story About Blue Ivy & It Will Absolutely Melt Your Heart

Blue Ivy Carter already has a reputation for being a total master of sass (all you need to do is watch that infamous footage of her at the Grammys to know what we’re talking about), but according to her father, she recently upped the ante in the best way possible.

In his recent appearance on David Letterman’s Netflix show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, which premieres in full on April 6, the rapper opened up about whether it bothers him that his children’s upbringings will be so different from his own. (Spoiler: It doesn’t.)

“I feel grateful every day. I wake up, I look around, look at my kids, they’re healthy,” he answered.

He then proceeded to provide us all with the most adorable anecdote that shows Blue Ivy is truly growing up to hold her own.

“Me and my daughter talk. I told her to get in the car the other day cause she was asking a thousand questions and we had to leave for school,” he said. “And I got in the car and I’m faced this way — I’m just painting the picture of how healthy my children are at this present time — so we’re driving and I just hear a little voice. ‘Dad.’ I turn around and she said, ‘I didn’t like when you told me to get in the car the way you told me.’ She’s 6! ‘It hurt my feelings.'”

Clearly, Jay-Z and Bey are raising their daughter to stand up for herself in a healthy, mature way — so of course, Jay-Z had the best response when Blue Ivy raised her concerns.

“I was like, ‘That’s the most beautiful thing you’ve ever said to me,'” the rapper told Letterman.

MY HEART! I’ll just be over here channeling my inner Blue Ivy in preparation for the next time I need to speak up for myself.
