In The “I’m Sat” TikTok Trend, Creators Are Simping Over Their Celebrity Crushes

This past week, the “I’m Sat” TikTok trend has been all over my FYP, and now, a random woman with a British accent won’t stop saying “I’m sat” in my head (does anyone else get trending TikTok audios stuck in their heads? No? Just me?). The trending audio, which originates from a popular romance reality television show, has been blowing up all over the app, with creators simping over their favorite (and sometimes questionable) celebrity and character crushes. (I’m sorry, but if you think Gru from Despicable Me is attractive, we need to talk.)

Although the “I’m Sat” TikTok trend isn’t grammatically correct (the English major in me is crying), it is both hilarious and unhinged. Whether you choose to simp over your middle school crush on a nonexistent cartoon character or gush over (and likely embarrass) your significant other, the “I’m Sat” TikTok trend is for anyone wanting to unapologetically profess their love.

Where did the trending sound originate?

The trending sound was originally posted to TikTok by @22cute_ and is actually from an episode in the third season of the hit romance reality television show Love Island UK. The conversation is between Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood, one of the show’s most toxic couples from the season.

During the episode, the camera caught Chris and Olivia in a heated disagreement as they both were sitting down on separate beds. The conversation between the two went as follows:

Olivia: I’m done with the conversation now.

Chris: Sit back down.

Olivia: *already sitting* I’m sat.

After Olivia said her now-infamous line, the camera panned to Chris as he realized that Olivia was already “sat.” The sound quickly blew up as Love Island UK fans reminisced over this iconic moment in television in the comment section of the video, with users saying, “BRO HIS FACE AT THE END IS SENDING ME😭” and “THIS HAS ME STRUGGLING TO BREATHE FOR WHAT REASON.

In the “i’m Sat” TikTok trend, creators are simping over their favorite celebrity and character crushes.

While the sound originates from a laughable moment in television, creators have transformed the now-viral audio into an opportunity to outwardly crush on celebrities, cartoon characters, and everything in-between. For instance, user @__tengens4thwife chose to use the trending sound to simp over a character from the blockbuster 2009 film Avatar, while creator @itsari.aleise used the audio to profess her undying love for actor Michael B. Jordan.

Creators are also using the trend to gush over other popular celebrities like Johnny Depp, Robert Pattinson, Doja Cat, Harry Styles, Chris Evans, and, of course, Jack Harlow (Jack somehow finds a way to be a part of every TikTok trend). On the other hand, some creators take a different approach, like user @__tengens4thwife did, and use the trend to simp over nonexistent cartoon or television characters, like Anthony Bridgerton from the hit period drama television series Bridgerton or Li Shang from the 1998 Disney movie Mulan.

Be careful if you try this trend.

To try this trend, think of your favorite celebrity or character crush, save an image of them to your camera roll, and then get to filming! Start by saying to the camera, “I’m done with the conversation now.” Then, using the Green Screen effect on TikTok, insert an image of your celebrity or character crush as the audio says, “Sit back down.” After, switch the video speed setting to 0.3x or 0.5x to get the slo-mo effect as you fall and sit down (and please fall and sit down on something soft, like your bed or couch!) as the audio says, “I’m sat.”

Although the “I’m Sat” TikTok trend is super fun to participate in, proceed with caution, dear reader. Several TikTokers have attempted this trend and miserably failed, even breaking their beds in the process as they film the “I’m sat” part of the video. And bestie, several seconds of TikTok fame is not worth a broken bed frame.
