Here’s How To Watch Instagram Reels On Your TV

Scrolling isn’t just a mindless pastime for Gen Z — it’s a full on hobby. I’m no exception, as I’ll choose a few hours on Instagram Reels over watching TV any day. But do you ever feel like your screen is a little too small? Do you wish you could enjoy your favorite content on a bigger screen? If so, then you’re in luck, because Instagram has teamed up with Amazon Fire TV to put Reels on TV screens through a new app, Instagram for TV.

Instagram began testing Instagram for TV in the U.S. on select Amazon Fire TV devices on Dec. 16. According to Instagram’s official announcement of the app, this partnership emerged from users’ feedback on Instagram, in which many said that Reels is most enjoyable when users are scrolling with family and friends. Instagram for TV works so that viewers can watch Reels channels on their big screens, with channels personalized to match viewers’ interests based on their Instagram activity — no scrolling required, as they play automatically.

So, if you’re planning a cozy winter break at home, this new feature might be exactly what you’re looking for on a night in with your family or high school friends! Here’s how to download the app and get to watching Reels from the comfort of your home TV.

How to get Instagram for TV On Your Amazon Fire TV Device

During this testing period, the Instagram for TV app is available on multiple Amazon Fire TV devices, including Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st and 2nd Gen), Fire TV 2-Series, Fire TV 4-Series, and Fire TV Omni QLED Series. If you have one of these devices hooked up to your TV, go ahead and find the Amazon Appstore and download the app that resembles the Instagram icon.

How to Use Instagram for TV

Once you have the app downloaded, you can sign into your own Instagram account — do this manually on your TV, or simply open your Instagram mobile app and sign in from the Settings page. The app currently allows up to five accounts, so multiple people can enjoy their own personalized Reels channels.

Once you’re logged in, your channels, all based on your different interests, will be present. To play a channel, click on a Reel that you’re interested in; the Reels will then play automatically at full sound, with no scrolling to the next Reel required! The app includes a search bar for you to find your favorite Instagram creators or just explore anything you’re curious about.

As this new app is tested, Instagram and Fire TV plan to work on implementing more features, including using your phone as a remote, sharing feeds with your friends, a way to switch channels easily, and even a way to view all of your favorite creators in one place, according to the Instagram announcement.

Neither Instagram nor Amazon have announced an official rollout date for Fire TV devices outside of the U.S. In the meantime, Instagram and Fire TV encourages users to try the new app and send feedback their way through Instagram Help Center’s report system.
