How To Reorder Your Instagram Grid With The App’s New Feature

If you’ve spent years wishing you could move that one photo in your Instagram feed somewhere else on your feed — you know the one: it’s super cute but clashes with the rest of your grid — the day has finally come. After what seems like years of users begging Meta to let them rearrange their grid in the app, Instagram is finally making it happen. Thank you, social media decision-makers!

Announced on June 8, the new feature makes it easier for IG users to refresh their feeds and perfect the profile layout they’ve always wanted. Until now, posts have appeared in chronological order and pinning posts to the top of your feed was the only way to move a post out of its chronological spot. Now, users can showcase creative projects, highlight their favorite memories, or finally bring their feed to aesthetic perfection.

To use the feature, users can press and long-hold any post on their feed until a menu pops up to “reorder grid.” Then, just drag your posts around into your preferred spots (sort of like how you can rearrange apps on an iPhone). There is no limit to how many times you can reorder your Instagram grid, so you’ll have plenty of chances to switch things up if you’re struggling to land on a specific look for your feed. According to USA Today, the feature only works on mobile, so you won’t be able to rearrange your grid on your laptop.

The change comes at a time when Instagram has started rolling out updates to help users ease the pressure of having a perfect feed the first time. Just a few months ago, the app rolled out an update that allows users to change the orders of their carousel posts. This way, if you change your mind about the post you made the cover, you can change it at any time. After that change, users praised the app for adding the feature.

With the ability to rearrange posts, adjust previews, and edit carousel covers after posting, Instagram is giving users more opportunities to perfect their profiles without starting from scratch. So, if your Instagram profile has been stuck in the same layout for years, now might be the perfect time for a feed makeover.
