Nancy Meyers Weighed In On Those Rumors About ‘The Holiday’ Getting A Sequel

16 years after its release, fans of the festive classic The Holiday were sent into a frenzy online when it was reported that the film was set for a sequel, with claims that the original cast — Jack Black, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, and Jude Law — were all on board for its second installment. Unfortunately, however, the romcom’s director and writer Nancy Meyers just put the rumors on the naughty list.

Released in 2006, the original movie follows English journalist Iris (Winslet) and American socialite Amanda (Diaz) as they swap homes for the holidays and find love after heartbreak. With leading men Graham (Law) and Miles (Black), the film became a fan-favorite and seasonal must-watch over time, praised for its aesthetic design and cozy plot.

According to an anonymous source interviewed by The Sun, The Holiday 2 was thought to follow its predecessor’s footsteps and tell the tale of the lovebirds almost two decades later. “It’s one of the most successful movies of its kind and still enjoyed every year by millions of fans around the world — it makes perfect sense to revisit those characters and find out what became of their lives after they hooked up,” the source claimed. “It’ll be funny, poignant, and heartwarming – just what everyone wants for Christmas. The plan is to start rolling on scenes next year. The main talent are all signed up.”

The rumors even followed Cameron Diaz’s recent comeback to acting. After stepping out of Hollywood in 2018, the actress went back on her retirement announcement to star in Back In Action alongside Jamie Foxx, who convinced Diaz to get back from her break.

Nancy Meyers, though, debunked the reports by sharing a picture of the headlines reporting on The Holiday 2. “So many DM’s about this,” she captioned it, adding, “sorry — but it’s not true.”

The post was met with sad reactions from viewers, who commented everything from “What would it take for you to reconsider?” to “Nancy!!! Give the people what they want!!!”

Also the writer and director of acclaimed movies like The Parent Trap, The Intern, and Something’s Gotta Give, Meyers’ latest work was the short film Father of The Bride Part 3 (ish), a “mini sequel” to Father of The Bride born out of her partnership with Netflix in 2020. The streaming service also announced that she will be writing, directing and producing her next movie for them. Almost nothing is known about the project so far, but it will be Meyers’ first feature-length film since 2017’s Home Again, starring Reese Witherspoon and Pico Alexander.
